SETTs

SETTs - South East Transition Towns is the group (finishing in February 2009) that was started to help initiate the local Transition groups below

February is the Great Unleashing. After that, the pilot SETTs group closes and groups managing the portfolios in the Transition process talk over.

Contact Us to start your own group. We come and show a video, give a talk and chat with you, have some fun, describe the process and generally help your Transition Town begin.

We all share a big Mailing List to chat among ourselves and each town can have their own list.

About Transition Towns

Transition Towns is about responding to Peak Oil and Climate Change.

It's a process ...of developing an Energy Descent Action Plan within communities.

Read more about the 12 steps in the Transition Tools menus.

This is about community leadership - initiatives - ideas - actions - solutions.

We are turning problems into opportunities - and example being the growth of interest in local food production, energy solutions, transport solutions.

These things are achieved by finding our common bonds, the edges where we meet - working on them - and playing - above all, being humans in charge of our destiny.

One of us cannot find the solution alone - together we can.

We have been preparing for Transition Towns for years ...

Now is the time and we are the people.

What do we focus on ?

A dialogue in the TT group has been about focus on the 'pitch' that TT takes.

Is it Peak Oil and Climate Change, Economic Collapse and preparing for that - or it is building community from within - as  the primary reason  for being involved in TT as a process. Are both relevant? Ultimately if TT is to be a whole-of-community movement - then we have to move beyond our paradigm of ..if... then and move into a new thinking model that says both... and ...

Power Savings

Bill Caldicott, who is a member of Clean Energy for Eternity, can help you to reduce your power consumption by measuring the efficiency of your appliances and helping you to work out where you can save energy. Bill is based in the Bermagui area and he can be contacted on 6493 3051.

TTTPlus is grateful for Bill's offer to make his contact details available through our web site. He is providing a voluntary service so there is no charge but it would be a nice gesture to make a small donation to CEFE or to join and/or volunteer to help with one of their fund raising projects.

CEFE Bermagui are raising money for grid connected solar panels to go onto the roof of the new Surf Club when it is completed and on the Bermagui Pre-School.

CEFE Update 3/11/08 : the Bermagui Pre-School have called tenders for the installation of a 2kw grid connected solar array.

An Alternative Agriculture is Possible

The Politics of Food is Politics

By DE CLARKE and STAN GOFF

In recent days, we have seen the rising price of oil and the devaluation of the dollar create two quantum shifts in the economy: the beginning of the collapse of the air travel industry and a global crisis of food-price inflation. These are related in ways that are crucial to understand -- because we are seeing the outlines of an historic opportunity to change the terms of theory and practice for a politics of resistance. As air carriers have gone bankrupt, the knock-on effects on travel agents, airports, airport-colocated hotels, "package" vacation resorts, etc. are considerable.

This is how one cascade pours into another, as the manifold contradictions of our global system merge and co-amplify. Tourism, which was supposed to be a relatively benign, non-extractive industry for colonized nations -- an alternative to brutal extraction and cash cropping -- turns out to have been just as extractive all along due to the climate (and cultural) damage done by commodified air travel.
