The Concept of Editing Your Own Website

Editing your website means:-
* Adding, moving or removing pages
* Adding, moving or removing content on those pages
* Using the User's Site Tools to administer your website. These Site Tools help you promote yourself (eg load events to the Events Calendar, edit products in your Shop, and compile your address book Address Book, etc).

Editing Pages and Content Using a Content Manager
The website uses a CMS (a Content Management System) which in this network is called TYPO3. Content management is effectively a word processor for the web. The editing features are available through any internet browser (Firefox is recommended at mozilla.com).

The Editing Icons are in Your Banner
When you are logged in to your website you will notice some small grey editing icons (tools) in the banner at the top left of the page just above the page menus. Mouse over each icon to find out what they do.

You will mostly use 'Create New Page' (4th from left) and 'Create New Content Element' (2nd from left).

Overview of How the Editing Actually Works

The editing uses forms
Whenever you edit your website, you make a selection from the editing tools which opens a form. You complete the details in the form and then save and close the form.

The Save icons are at the top and bottom of every editing form.

Creating a New Page
Select Create New Page from the Editing Tools in the banner.

A Page Location dialogue opens. Choose location of the page in the page tree by clicking on the arrow between your pages.

Give the page a name.

Save and Close the editing form.

Create New Content Element
Select Create New Content Element from the Editing Tools.

Choose Type of content (usually Text with Image).

Choose column location of content.

Complete the editing form as needed. Notice online Help icons for many options. Make sure you name your content element in the header panel as shown.

Save and Close this form. The page will refresh itself.

If you want to go back and edit your content click the pencil (see below) to re-open the editing form in order to make your changes. Save and Close again.
Cool Good editing!

Adding Images or Files
Images are added to the pages in two easy steps.

Step 1. Add the image/s to your online website folder/s.
Step 2. Select Image/s to be displayed in the content element and define image parameters (eg Image width in pixels, Caption etc).

Step 1. Adding images to your
online website folder/s.

Click the Folder icon in the content editing form Images panel (see below).

This opens the Folder dialogue box (see below). Expand your folders if necessary.

You may choose to view thumbnails of your files (see below).

Browse your computer and select an image/doc file to upload (see below).

Upload Files up to three at a time.

You have now completed Step 1 and your images are available for use anywhere in your website.

Step 2. Select Image/s to be displayed in the content element

Click on + sign for each image in order to select multiple images (eg to create a photo gallery). Close dialogue box X.

OR
Click on any image name to select a single file/s.

Your image is now inserted into your content element (see below).

You are ready to set image display (see below). This example shows an image centered, above the text, within that content element. If multiple images are selected they would be presented in one column.

Save and Close
