Austcom is extremely excited about the potential of this project to enhance local communities. The response so far has been truly amazing. We expect many more gardens to come online over coming months.
The objectives of this project are;
To gain public access to land within towns and cities for the local community to produce food on.
To provide an online network of websites and mailing lists on which local gardeners can display their efforts and exchange information.
To provide added support for non-hybrid seed stores in conjunction with the Seed Savers Network.
In larger gardens to supply local food outlets (starting in Bega with community food coop Candelo Bulk Food Stores).
To aggregate demand for local produce and convey the nature of that demand to growers and potential growers.
To establish working examples of local food production, distribution and sales.
And finally to establish a system of onging coordination between outlets and growers.
Anyone interested in forming a community garden especially if you have a small plot of land in the Tura Beach area please contact Howard on 040 212 6000
